The Anton Banko Award for Excellence in Teaching Elementary Science

The Anton Banko Award for Excellence in Teaching Elementary Science recognizes an educator teaching in grades K-5 who is an outstanding teacher of science.  The Banko Award covers expenses to attend the New Jersey Science Convention (up to $1000) and $2000 to purchase science supplies at the teacher’s discretion.

The New Jersey Student Learning Assessment for Science (NJSLA-S) measures student proficiency with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science. The science standards require assessment tasks that examine students’ performance of scientific and engineering practices in the context of crosscutting concepts and disciplinary core ideas. The three-dimensional nature of the standards requires more complex assessment items and tasks. Click here for the link to the Practice Tests.

Calling all Science Supervisors!

Heading a science department is a big job!  Ever feel like you are going it alone?  Don't!  Sign up for

NJSELA's Supervisor Mentoring Program!

This is a program with the intention of partnering veteran science supervisors (or those with science supervision responsibilities) with "new" (<3 yrs) people in the role - but it is really open to anyone who wants to make connections and have a go-to group for helping with the issues we encounter, big and small.
