NJSELA POSITION STATEMENT: Alternate Route Management NJSELA POSITION STATEMENT: ALTERNATE ROUTE TEACHERS: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (MENTORING)
The New Jersey Education Code requires that all alternate route teachers be provided with mentors for specific periods of time in order to provide them with professional assistance in becoming competent classroom science teachers.
Alternate route science teachers must be provided assistance and guidance by licensed professional science teachers who have experience, and have demonstrated competence in science instruction.
In light of the relative scarcity of teachers with these qualifications, retired science teachers should be recruited to serve as mentors to alternate route science teachers in schools throughout the State of New Jersey.
Retired teachers should not lose any status, rights, compensation, or privileges, afforded to them as retirees for providing this service. Questions or problems with this site, contact webmaster@njsela.org |
