NJSELA PROGRAMS AND PARTNERSHIPS
New Jersey Science Convention-In Affiliation with the New Jersey Science Teachers Association help organize and run one of the countries largest state science conventions. NJSELA -ROCHE BIOETHICS PROJECT-New Choices, New Responsibilities: Ethical Issues in the Life Sciences -Members of NJSELA worked with grant funds made available from ROCHE to help develop and present a curriculum supplement designed to develop strategies of ethical analysis and to involve students in issues that currently face our society. Topics include genetic rights and responsibilities, AIDS, animals in science, and environmental responsibility. New chapters on AIDS, Genetics, the Environment, and Transplants have been recently developed. The curriculum is designed to be infused into a middle school or high school course where the objective information of science encounters subjective ethical dilemmas. The instructor's guide offers a planned approach to the discussion of ethical issues in biology, health, or environmental science classes. New Jersey Environmental Primer-NJSELA provided a grant to the New Jersey Commission on Environmental Education and the Interagency Work Group on Environmental Protection (DEP) to the support the production of the New Jersey Environmental Primer 2005. The primer was meant to establish a common understanding among New Jersey residents of topics and issues related to the environment. It is available through Tanya Oznowich the Environmental Education Supervisor NJDOEP (tanya.oznowich@dep.state.nj.us) Questions or problems with this site, contact webmaster@njsela.org |
